Derrickson Tackles The Day the Earth Stood Still

Hollywood North Report reports that The Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson will helm 20th Century Fox's remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

The film is based on Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi classic about an alien man and his robot who come to earth in a saucer-shape spacecraft. Many of us remember the famous phrase "Klatu...Verta...Nic..." I got it. I got it. I know your damn words!

The studio has scheduled a May 9, 2008 release for the film.
