Barb is with her brother visiting their father’s grave. Suddenly a walking dead man attacks her. She runs of in panic. The zombie follows her. She finds shelter in a house nearby. There she also meets a few other persons whom also fled from strange, aggressive people. What’s going on? Through radio and television they understand that dead people have risen from their graves. This, because of radiation from Venus or something. The zombies are getting more outside the house. Will the people survive the night?
This is a classic horror movie. It’s a genius movie in its simple ness. Its black and white and very low budget. But very fun. The people are acting strange in the stressed situation that is inside the house. And there is no hero or no love story going down in the plot. It great, because it make it very realistic in a way that good. The apathetic Barb. The guy who let the fist talk so easy. The desperate man in the cellar. All of these are very nice portraits of people in extreme happenings.
Because of the low budget there is a few stupid things. Like all of the telling what have happened at the food place. It gets a bit stupid when the brother goes on for 5 minutes what he have done before he reached the house. And then they say it all again on the radio… sigh…
A mystery in the movie is why all of the dead people are walking straight to the house? They should be wondering around like confused chickens.
Another mystery is why Director George A Romero release a “directors cut†with a few extra scenes in the beginning and in the end, when those scenes don’t give anything to the original story. It smells as a bad excuse to force fans to go buy another copy of the movie.
Overall, this is a great horror movie, and it fun to see how a low budget can be so good. I recommend everyone to see this.
